  • MISSION

• It offers equal opportunity of access to all.

• A differentiated approach to teaching that encourages all students to participate fully in the process of learning.

• It encourages and motivates students to achieve their full potential whilst recognizing and commenting their efforts, achievements and success.

• A safe and caring environment is to be provided that will promote interaction between the three sections of the academic community such as Students, Teachers and Non-teaching employees.

• A value based system of education is provided so that students will participate in all such co-curricular activities which will improve their health and mind and also encourage them to participate in welfare activities having ‘Community Orientation’.

  • Institutional Distinctiveness

Attuned to the vision of its founders, the College has always endeavoured to provide “holistic education” to young boys and girls, many of whom are first generation learners. Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities are given as much emphasis as curricular learning. Students are encouraged to participate in cultural activities, sports and games as well as in co-curricular activities. Outstanding sportspersons are granted Fees concession. At the very beginning of the academic session, i.e. in the month of August, inter-class tournaments (in both indoor and outdoor games) are organized in Table Tennis, Carom, Chess, and also in Football. Inter-class Cricket tournament is organized in the month of November. The College not only encourages but actually ensures the participation of its students every year in the Inter-Collegiate Sports & Games Championships organized by the University of Calcutta and also by the Higher Education Dept. of Govt. of West Bengal. The College Football team has emerged as winners/runners in these championships almost every year. The Football team also won the Calcutta Football League organized by Reliance. An impressive number of medals are also won by the students in athletics at the Inter-Collegiate championships every year.

In the cultural sphere, the Freshers’ Welcome programme held in August/September, and the Annual Social programme held in November offers ample opportunity to students to perform on stage and thereby reveal their creative talents. Cultural programmes are also organized on the occasion of Basanta Utsav, Rabindra Jayanti, and College Foundation Day. Teachers not only encourage students to perform, but they actually guide them and also help them to rehearse before performing on stage. Among external events, special mention is to be made of the impressive performances of our students in the Sangeet Mela programme and in the Poush Utsav programme hosted annually by the Information and Cultural Affairs Dept. of Govt. of West Bengal in recent years. Students also perform in Inter -College cultural competitions organized by different Colleges, and win several prizes. The Students’ Union of the College has been organizing Inter-College Cultural & Games Competition, “Utkarsha”, since March 2019. This programme is aimed at providing an exposure to the creative talents not only among the students of this College but also of neighbouring colleges. Utkarsha 2019 was an amalgam of cultural and games events where students from neighbouring colleges and from the host college participated in Carom, Table Tennis, Football, Kho-Kho, on the one hand, and in singing, dancing, debate, news reporting, quiz, essay writing, on the other. This programme proved very effective in building up friendship, cooperation, trust and goodwill among the student community of neighbouring colleges.

Students are equally enthusiastic about co-curricular activities such as student seminars which are organised by the departments in every academic session, participation in Youth Parliament organised at the district level by the Govt. of West Bengal, literary contributions to the College magazine, Departmental Wall magazines, etc. The College has been organising Annual Exhibition every year since 2015 with the objective of nurturing creative minds of young learners. A theme is selected every year for the Annual Exhibition. Students from the three streams, Arts, Science and Commerce, present a wide variety of charts and models to depict the theme of the Exhibition. The best presentations are awarded.

The institution is thus committed towards promoting all round development and holistic education of young learners, by making optimal utilization of available physical, financial and human resources.
